Unique Progression - About Us

The orginal line up was as follows:

  • DJ Snowflake
  • AKA
  • CK One
  • MC JD

However, we often played alongside special guests and gave younger DJs a chance to warm up; especially for the nights in Berlins which were in 1999. The nights we did were about a party first and foremost - not DJ egos  - and we hope that shone through! There were also many gifted and talented DJs along the way such as Injekta, Ben Burgess, MC/DJ Shine but to name a few..

Our Nights/Parties

The Aquarium Club - Oldham Street, Manchester (2000)

During our nights at The Aquarium, Oldham Street we played alongside the legend that is Sefton Madface Injekta Motley and Marvellous Marvin as well as MC JD & the late MC Tek (who coined the phrase: SNOWFLAKE YOU'RE HEAVYWEIGHT!) This club was full on UK Garage with no compromise and we spent some great nights in there laughing, drinking and playing tunes!

Berlins (Monty's Gym) - Canal Street, Manchester (1999)

We used to do Thursday nights in Berlins which was on Canal Street in Manchester. These were mainly in association with Monty's Gym which was situated on Oldham Street and focused mainly on 2 Step UK Garage. This place used to get ramed full at arouns 12.30am/1.00am and we had some seriously good times in here playing what was largely a unique type of music in the city at that time. The crowd was also very diverse, the dancefloor packed and the resident MC JD controlling the vibes.

The Old Monk Pub (2001)

Again we teamed up with our old friend Monty for these nights and had some real crackers in this place! Sefton joined in on the decks as we created a party vibe playing the usual blend of soul, house & UK garage. There are some rare pics that I found this week floating around from one of these which I will put on this site [today's date: 29th Dec 2011] 10 years ago to this month...doesn't time fly...

Other Parties

Alongside these nights there were many others in and around Manchester and we played at venues such as:

  • Dry Bar
  • Prague 5
  • Holy City Zoo
  • Loaf (US House & Garage)
  • Revolution
  • Rennies, Oldham
  • Reform (Manchester UTD party!)

The Unique Progression Way!

Throughout all our nights, the party vibe was reflected [we think!] through the diversity of music played. It made sense to warm up with soul, funk, rap, streetsoul, 80s groove then progress into US house, soulful house and UK garage. Every night should be treated as a party...whether someone's basement or in the club!

After a lazy 10 years, we are considering doing a one off night where we can relive the past and create the same vibe once more! Through the advances in technology we can bring all the old tunes back plus have a wider selection than conceivable 10 years ago. I, (Snowflake) will still be using the trusty Technics 1200/1210s with Serato which provides the flexibility of vinyl with the convenience of many more tunes than I can carry! You'll have to ask the other DJs their preferred format as Pioneer CDJs have now taken up where Technics left off..

We hope to see you at our reunion night in the future, would be great if you could join our facebook group & follow our new twitter account! Here are full contact details for any enquiries:
